Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

This course aims at further developing the academic writing skills students have acquired in their previous advanced writing courses with a particular focus on writing a BA Thesis in the area of humanities. At the end of the course, it is expected that students can write a BA Thesis in light of the research question and thesis statement they have developed for their BA Paper. 

Teaching methodology

In-class discussions, lecture, group work, written assignments.

Course content

In this course, topics covered will include finding a research question, narrowing down the selected topic, writing a thesis statement, consulting and using primary and secondary sources required for research, methods of note-taking, rules of citation and writing bibliographic entries in accordance with the Chicago Manual Style, outlining the BA Paper, and examining the structure and format of a BA Thesis. 

Prior knowledge expected

Conventions of academic style, knowing how to use quotations, how to evaluate secondary sources, the structure of academic essays, the use formal language, academic vocabulary.

Curricular registration requirements

Successful completion of "Professional Writing Skills."
