Intendierte Lernergebnisse
At the end of the course, the students should be able to analyze fashion discourse and gendered discourses therein; apply linguistic methods to analysis of fashion discourse; find their research interest in a narrower topic within fashion discourse

home readings and small assignments, participation in class discussions, final presentation + a brief report on the chosen topic
Inhalt/e
The aims of this course are to gain some insight into contemporary theories of fashion and problems in fashion discourse, learn to analyze the following themes within fashion discourse critically and apply linguistic methodologies to them:
-fashion discourse and theories of fashion
-fashion and gender
-fashion in times of digitalization
-discourses of femininity and masculinity in fashion
-non-European fashions and identities
-fashion and consumerism; ethical fashion.

interest in and first acquaintance with sociology, culture studies, and language ideology

a pre-agreed topic for the final presentation and paper (based on the presentation).
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
1) in-class participation (i.e. presence, assignments, involvement) = 30% of the grade
2) final presentation + brief report = 70% of the grade
