LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

This course is designed to teach students literary adaptation (and its use in education), while also providing context about the adapting of a literary source to another genre or medium and how a piece of writing is transformed into another work.

Important notice:

Blended Learning integrates thoughtfully structured online activities into face-to-face courses. Detailed instructions about the schedule and procedure will be provided via e-mail and Moodle. To stay up-to-date, please make sure to check your AAU inboxes on a regular basis.

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

Dynamic lecture inputs for theoretical and basic background; close readings of reading assignments; in-class discussions; presentations (topic of student choice)... and much more.

Inhalt/e

All of the modern forms of storytelling we teach are tied to the practice of adaptation. But... what does adaptation mean? The term “adaptation” means the process of adapting or translating something from one form to another. In other words, (literary) adaptation is the recreation of a piece of art, literature, video game, or film by using the same concepts but changing certain aspects such as the setting or the characters. The practice of adapting literature in multiple mediums, however, dates back to antiquity...

Primarily tackling unique themes and concepts of literature/modern media and, at times, other related topics, students are encouraged to learn the basic principles, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding and to embrace popular literary adaptations as educational tools. Specific examples will then highlight the importance of taking a closer look at what makes analysing/teaching literary adaptations so fascinating.

Carefully chosen examples which make the subject easier to understand and highlight specific themes and concepts: to be announced in class.
