Inhalt/e
Comics are typically associated with superpowered people, wearing capes and their underwear over their clothes, and tell fictitious tales of larger-than-life heroism and villainy. Some comics, however, present sophisticated stories engaging with controversial issues, which has led them to be targeted by conservative pundits to be excluded from classrooms. Graphic novels, a particular type of comics, first and foremost, have been employed to engage in narratives beyond the farcical or slapstick and distinguished themselves as works of art and criticizing political, social, and cultural mores. In this class we will investigate various comics and graphic novels, primarily focusing on hot-button topics and controversial issues.
