Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

Munich or Mumbai, New York or Nairobi –  welcoming diversity and adapting to cultural differences as well as respecting societal norms are vital for success in the contemporary context of international business. 

This course explores the key aspects of intercultural management, adaptive leadership, and culture as a driver of communication. You will critically appreciate the narratives used by the multinational companies and become aware of how high-performing multicultural teams and successful international organizations leverage cultural differences.

This course will enable you to deepen your understanding of how culture influences human behaviour and you will  improve your competence to work effectively and manage across cultures.

Teaching methodology

Experiential learning and simulated scenarios for solving intercultural problems are the highlights of this interactive course. The learning sessions are interspersed with reflective conversations, mini projects as well as group tasks to explore real-world applications of intercultural skills.

Good to Know: Minimum Theory! Emphasis is upon critical analysis, enhancing cultural awareness and effectively applying knowledge to solve problems.

Course content

The foundational course on intercultural competence is organised in three main thematic units. The first unit provides a conceptual understanding of cultural dimensions and cross-cultural synergy in international business. The second unit focuses on enhancing your competence in cross-cultural effectiveness and intercultural communication. The third unit provides opportunities for problem-based learning. 

Each module contributes to enhancing your skills and develops your competence in dealing with cultural differences in an increasingly complex world of international business.

Literature

The learning content will evolve through a process of participative collaboration. Hence, there is no obligatory pre-reading for this course :-)

All students are obliged to submit an evaluation assignment as per the guidelines made available after the first day of the course
