LV-Beschreibung
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
This course is designed to give students an understanding of why empirical methods are necessary and to provide them with a workingknowledge of basic econometric tools so that
- They can apply such tools to modelling, estimation, and inference in the context of real-world economic problems and data.
- They can evaluate critically the results and conclusions from others who use basic econometric tools like ordinary least squares.
- They have a foundation and understanding for further study of econometrics and have an appreciation of the range of more advanced techniques (may be covered in later courses)
Lehrmethodik
This course consists of lectures and practical sessions (including applications to economic data sets using the econometric software Gretl). See the description in Moodle for details.
Inhalt/e
- The Simple Linear Regression Model
- Multiple Regression Analysis: Estimation and Inference
- Multiple Regression Analysis: Asymptotics and Further Issues
- Multiple Regression Analysis: Specification Analysis and Heteroskedasticity
- The Linear Regression Model with Endogenous Regressors
- Simple Panel Data Models
In the practical part, we will use concepts already known from other economics courses and analyse them with the empirical methods covered in this course. Examples include the estimation of wage equation, production function, economic growth model, gravity model, or models for supply and demand.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Sufficient prior economics knowledge as well as a profound understanding of (and the ability to readily apply) the concepts taught in Methodology I: Mathematics and Methodology II: Statistics.
