By the end of the course, students
- have some basic understanding of gendered processes within organisation and work.
- are able to explain the difference between gender and sex.
- are able to form questions, in order to unveil gendered processes, structures and dynamics within organisation and work.
- can name some ideas on how to promote equity within organisations.
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
This course will consist of in-person teaching and some online tasks.
During the initial in-person classes the lecturer will present and discuss key concepts on gender in management, gendered organisation and gender at work.
In the online phase, students will asynchronous work on specific small excercises (individual tasks) as well as collaborate with colleagues to gather a e-portfolio on a chosen topic. The synchronous online sessions (time slots listed in the course description) will consist of group appointments with the lecturer to discuss their e-portfolio. The e-portfolio is meant to deepen the understanding of the chosen topic related to the course. The e-portfolio cah be used as further learning material for the course's take home exam.
Students will work with scientific papers and book chapters (guided reading) and thereby improve the basic skills for scientific work.
Inhalt/e
Basic concepts of gender studies within the area of work and organisation. Amongst others:
- gender vs. sex
- gendered organisation
- men and masculinities
- role incongruity and stereotypes
- heteronormativity at work
- intersectionality
- decolonial and transnational approaches
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
This course is taught in English, hence students should be able to read and write texts in English (though grammar and punctuation will not influence marking as long as it is possible to understand the writing).

Prüfungsinformationen
Prüfungsmethode/n
Due to the interactive nature of the course, students are required to actively participate throughout the course. Especially they have to complete some small online tasks on moodle (individual work).
Students are required form a working group and collaboratively create a e-portfolio on a chosen topic; this will be shared with all students and present an additional learning basis for the take-home exam (e-portfolio is group work).
Finally, there will be a short take-home exam (individual work).
Prüfungsinhalt/e
All topics mentioned in the course can be exam topics.
Students can choose their topic from the e-portfolio from a list of course topics and in accordance with the lecturer.
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
- up to 20 points for individual online tasks and active particiaption during the in-person sessions
- up to 40 points for the group work (e-portfolio)
- up to 40 points for the take-home exam
Grading:
89-100 points: Excellent (1)
76-88 points: Good (2)
63-75 points: Satisfactory (3)
50-62 points: Sufficient (4)
less than 50 points: failed
