Intendierte Lernergebnisse

By the end of the course, students will

  • be able to use the "EZB" (Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek"), the database for journals provided by the university library.
  • be able to search relevant databases, particularly Fachportal Pädagogik and ERIC.
  • know major/leading journals in the field of ALE and VET. 
  • know about the structure of scientific articles.  
  • know major theoretical debates and empirical findings in selected fields of ALE and VET.
  • have thoroughly read and reviewed selected journal articles (topic, theoretical framework, scope of research/research questions, methodological approaches/methods, results/discussion).
  • be able to present findings and participate in scholarly debate.

Lehrmethodik

We will use Constructive Alignment: Participants will be co-responsible for their learning processes and learning outcomes.

Please be aware that almost every group member in this reading seminar (including Monika Kastner) uses English as a foreign language. There will be different levels of language proficiency. My language policy seeks to be sensitive and inclusive.

Inhalt/e

Internationalisation is vitally important for research on Adult Learning and Education (ALE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET).  Therefore we will mainly focus on journals because they represent the state of the art with regard to theoretical debate and empirical findings.

We will discuss possible topics and questions for literature search and literature review together in the course.

Erwartete Vorkenntnisse

Prerequisites for attending

This course corresponds with “Pflichtfach 5: Internationale Forschungs- und Entwicklungsfelder in der Erwachsenenbildung und der beruflichen Bildung” within the Master’s degree programme „Erwachsenenbildung und berufliche Bildung. „Pflichtfach 5“ addresses advanced students in their 3rd semester or higher.

Literature and teaching material will be provided in Moodle.

Oral presentation of several, selected journal articles including a handout

Learning diary (focus: individual capacity building on language aquisition and academic proficiency/skill development)
