Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Students shall become familiar with multimedia technologies on the examples of multimedia content authoring and processing (text, audio, images, video), podcasts, computer networks and web technologies.
This lecture has an accompanying lab class "180.811 (23) Introduction to Multimedia Technology (DMS)". Students are adviced to attend both courses, as lecture and hands-on exercises will be blended.
Lehrmethodik
Lectures, videos, hands-on examples and tutorials. Lecture and learning materials, as well as further readings will be provided over Moodle.
Please note that lecture and lab sessions will be blended during the class hours.

- Introduction to (multi-)media and related technology
- Content authoring and processing
- Text: unstructured vs. structured, hypertext, markdown, examples of human readable vs machine readable
- Audio: Recording, compression
- Images: File types, compression, limitations, future development
- Videos: Codecs and containers, compression
- Podcasts: Dedicated session on podcast authoring and technologies, held by an experienced Podcast producer.
- Computer network basics, the Internet and the WWW
- Use case: "Which technologies does opening and displaying a website include?"
- Network layers and protocols
- IP, TCP, DNS, HTTP, ...
- Web technologies
- Website authoring and management (HTML + CSS, CMS ... Content Management Systems )
- Web security (basics)
