Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

The aim of the course "Principles of International Law" is to provide knowledge of international (economic) law, the private international law (conflict of laws), the European law, the role of international actors, the tasks of European institutions and the European Single market as well as a profound understanding of the concept of law as such in an international context and the world's legal systems. The practical examples and case studies should facilitate the comprehension of international legal obligations, where they come from and why individual states take different approaches to their international obligations. The outcome of the course is that students should be able to describe the functioning of international law, its sources and what happens when states breach their international obligations.
