Inhalt/e
Algorithms have played an important role in gaming for a long time – computer-generated opponents (NPCs) for example, are controlled by a program that follows fixed sequences, and are becoming ever more sophisticated. New developments in artificial intelligence promise the to allow NPCs to ‘learn’ and develop ‘intelligence’ in the future.
In addition, algorithms, and increasingly AI, are targeting computer games as sources of user data for specific types of data analytics aiming to profile or personalize.
How are these developments changing the gaming industry?
What do players think about these developments?
To answer these questions we will learn about the and also practice different methods for researching computer games and play.
Small research undertakings (both individual and group work) will be conducted to gain some first-hand experience in different methods.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
Interest in computer games and play. No specific knowledge or experiences necessary.
