LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

- students will learn a new perspective on sports: sports as based on language, communication and discourse (focusing on media coverage, interviews with athletes, athletes' social media profiles, fan communication, naming practices of sports stadia etc)

- students will learn relevant linguistic terminology and concepts such as 'discourse', 'conversation', 'interview', 'identification processes', 'social media' 

- students will learn how to analyse sports as language and discourse-based from a linguistic perspective

- students will learn methods to carry out these analyses

Lehrmethodik

- theoritical input (based on up-to-date linguistic and social research on sports and specific types of sports such as football / soccer)

- group work with data 

- students' presentations and joint feedback 

Inhalt/e

- sports as language- and discourse-based socio-cultural phenomenon

-  linguistic methods to analyse sports - Conversation Analysis, Discourse Analysis, Critical Discursive Psychology, Multimodal Discourse Analysis 

- relevance of (social) media on and in sports

- sports and gender, sexuality, professionalism vs. amateurs etc
