Course Targets

Advanced Professional Communication: Human Resources Management (HRM)

ALL managers, not only Human Resources Managers, need a strong foundation in Human Resources (HR) concepts and techniques to do their jobs. Because all managers do have personnel related responsibilities, this course will focus on practical applications that all managers need to deal with their HR related responsibilities.

By exploring the topics below, students will gain an insight into the importance of HRM to a business organization, find out how each HR tool interacts with and affects the others and recognize the importance of leadership.

Essential HR management topics covered in this course are:

strategic HRM, recruitment, placement and retention, selection methods, onboarding, training and development, an overview of selected issues of labor law and, most importantly, leadership.

The intensely competitive nature of business today means HR managers must be able to defend their plans and contributions in measurable terms in achieving the company’s strategic aims.

In addition, through teaching the course in English, students will be exposed to the relevant international business terminology and the pragmatic use of English in business.

The course target is to introduce the students to issues of modern HRM as practiced by international companies in Austria and abroad.

Language goals are the acquisition of the relevant business terminology and the particular language of HRM to ensure effective business outcomes.
