LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

This course looks at basic determinants of trade in goods and services, and multinational activity with an emphasis on decisions at the firm-level and market structure. We begin by reviewing key features of traditional models of trade under perfect competition and extend these ideas to models of trade beyond perfect competition. Here, topics may include multinational firms and direct foreign investment, offshoring, wage inequality, trade and the environments or alike.

Mostly micro-economic tools will be used to explore the fundamentals of the technically demanding models and understand the economic intuition behind these models. After completing the course, students should have acquainted themselves with some (theoretical) foundations of international trade with an added glimpse of data. (This should enable them to use such concepts to think analytically and from an economic perspective about issues in international trade.)

Erwartete Vorkenntnisse

Comprehensive knowledge of the current content of StEOP: Introduction to Economics (607.110), VC Microeconomics (607.135/6), VC Macroeconomics (607.110), VO Economic Policy (608.110), VO Introduction to International Trade (607.110) is required for this course.  A good grasp of the materials presented in the Statistics and Mathematics foundational courses is essential.
