Intendierte Lernergebnisse
The Internet of Things (IoT) turned traditional buildings into entire ecosystems (Smart Buildings) with significantly improved efficiency. Smart Buildings increase people’s comfort and productivity, enable new opportunities, and stimulate the development of new services and businesses.
After successful completion of this course, students will obtain hands-on experience in the IoT domain, and develop deep knowledge in one of the proposed project topics. The students will learn appropriate methods, approaches to identify, characterize, and solve problems and challenges. The student will understand the main functionalities, novel technologies, and future development of Smart Buildings.

Inhalt/e
The core of the course is the Project, assigned based on the background and motivation of a student. The topics for the Project can be related to IoT, Smart Home, Smart Buildings, Home Automation, and even Machine Learning.
The theoretical part of the course is versatile, and can include the following topics:

- Building Management System (BMS)
- Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems
- IoT Communication Protocols
- Information Technology in Building Systems
- Sensors and Actuators for Home Automation
- Cybersecurity, Privacy and Access Control
- IoT Platforms and Systems
- Smart Lighting and Occupancy Tracking
- Monitoring and Load Management
- Building Energy Modelling and Power Efficiency
- Real-time Positioning
- Fault Detection and Diagnostics
- Cloud Computing and Cloud Services
Prüfungsinformationen
Prüfungsmethode/n
Students have to develop a project. The topic of the project is assigned based on background and interests of a student.
Oral examination is related to the individual project.
To successfully complete the course the project must be developed and presented.

Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
Project: 80%
Oral examinations: 20%
To complete the course the project and the oral examination must be completed.
