Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

In the first part of the seminar, tips and criteria for successful academic writing will be provided. An additional aim is to analyze and discuss selected examples of pieces of research that have been successfully published in leading journals in the specific field. Students analyze how the research was performed and learn about strengths and weaknesses related to the research as well as about methods employed in the articles. The results of these analyses will be discussed in class. In the second part of the seminar students present and discuss their own master thesis. In part 3 of the Seminar, based on the feedback of the first presentation, students are requested to present their progress since the last meeting. In part 4 of the Seminar, an introduction in qualitative and quantitative methods and the statistical program SPSS will be given. At the end students have to submit a short exposé of their thesis project.

Course content

The Research Seminar Media and Convergence Management comprises of four parts: analysis and discussion of research papers, presentation of students' master theses, presentation of thesis' progress and introduction in statistical methods and SPSS.


Requirements:

Please read the two research papers (available on Moodle) for the first meeting. Please read the course outline on Moodle for further details.

It is advisable to already have a topic or at least an idea for a topic for the master thesis.

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

The grading will be based on the summary of a journal article, two presentations and an exposé at the end of the course.
