LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

After the course, the students should have a good overview of current innovations as well as traditional and new business models (BMs) in the energy sector. Furthermore, students should be able to analyse and evaluate BMs using scientifically based tools and methods and to develop new business models (business model innovation; BMI).

In addition, the students develop their skills in the areas of project management, presentations (e.g. design and structure of content, presentation, etc.), interviewing, documentation and evaluation (qualitative research) and collaboration and presentation to company representatives.

Inhalt/e

The course is divided into three parts:

Part 1: The first part of the course provides an overview of the trends in the energy industry, which are the drivers and starting points for innovations and new BMs in the energy sector. In addition, the partner company will present current BM(s) and the issues they are dealing with in specific business area/s.

Part 2: The second part deals with selected existing business models of the partner company. These present the basis for further steps. The students first acquire the necessary basic knowledge through relevant literature and further research, as well as through discussions in the course. The next step is to analyse the relevant business models of the partner company and its development from the founding of the company to the present day. Secondary data (e.g. annual reports, internet research, etc.) and the exchange with representatives of the partner company serve as sources.

The results of the second part are written down and presented to the representatives of the partner company (interim presentation). This is graded as a partial performance (group work "business models").

Part 3: In the third section of the course, the students devote themselves, building on the questions presented in the first part, to new BMs and BMI in the energy sector. The students develop new BMs based on creative techniques (e.g. design thinking) and trends and new technologies in the energy sector, which could be integrated into the partner company's business portfolio.

The results of the third part are written down and presented to the representatives of the partner company (final presentation). This is graded as a partial performance (group work "Business Model Innovation").
