Intendierte Lernergebnisse
Overall, it is expected that students will have a better understanding of, and increased familiarity with commonly used theoretical and research English terminology pertaining to biopsychosocial human development and health psychology. More specifically, it is envisioned that students will demonstrate an ability to communicate an understanding of the following via English:
- The Ecological Model
- Nature or Nurture debate
- Attachment theory
- Adverse Childhood Experiences
- Mental Health Outcomes
- Case Formulation
- Prevention/Intervention
- Research Evidence

Audio-visual presentation and written assignments with the support of psychological research articles
Inhalt/e
The common usage of English terminology across the broader scientific community facilitates the dissemination of psychological research and findings through, for example, the publication of academic articles in peer-reviewed journals and the presentation of same at international conferences. As such, this course aims to provide students with an overview of some of the more commonly used English terms utilised throughout the field of Health Psychology. In contrast to the narrower framework of the traditional medical/disease model, Health psychologists take a contextual approach to understanding health, illness, and health care delivery, i.e. a biopsychosocial approach. To this end, the course willf ocus on the interplay of biological (e.g., genetic predisposition), psychological (e.g., perceived stress) and environmental conditions (e.g.,social support). While broadening their understanding of this approach, students will become familiar with reading and utilising English psychological terminology relevant to this area and will have the opportunity to consolidate this learning by completing written and oral assignments in English.

Literatur
The lecturer will provide a number of peer-reviewed scientific research articles investigating human social and emotional development from the perspective of Attachment theory and Adverse Childhood Experiences; their potential effects on mental health outcomes across the lifespan; and the overall implications for prevention research and interventions designed to reduce risk factors and promote health.
