Intendierte Lernergebnisse
The proseminar will start on October 8th and will take place online on BigBlueButton, which you can access via Moodle.
At the end of the proseminar, students will be familiar with
- the general history of sociolinguistics
- key concepts of sociolinguistics
- research methodologies to study language and society
- various interconnected aspects of language, identity and society.

Inhalt/e
The proseminar Language & Society aims to provide an overview of the development of sociolinguistics, its major concepts, and its research methodologies. We will explore the relationship between language (use), identity and society in focused sessions in which students will be invited to present their own small projects. Among others, we will look into the following topics:
- Language, Power and (Dis-)Advantage
- Language, Gender and Sexuality
- Language and Ethnicity
- Language, Region and Nationality
- Language and Professional Identity
- Language and Virtual Identity
