Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

- actively and accurately use the business-specific vocabulary and phrases that have been studied in class and at home

- deepened their understanding of, and ability to produce, a range of grammatical structures.

- follow and contribute extensively to a meeting on a pre-assigned topic

- negotiate effectively, using a range of phrases studied both in class and at home.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Group work, extensive self-study, vocabulary assessments, speaking and writing tasks and assessments.

Course content

Skills that will be developed throughout this course are:

  • ability to participate confidently and effectively in a meeting
  • ability to negotiate
  • writing skills (awareness of formal/informal differences)
  • reading skills (case studies, news articles)
  • grammar (including tense and aspect, prepositions and relative clauses)
  • subject-specific vocabulary (with a focus on phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions)

Topics that will be covered throughout this course include:

  • leadership
  • discrimination
  • intercultural communication
  • marketing

IMPORTANT: due to the ongoing global pandemic, the structure of this course will be adapted as best as possible to meet students’ needs, whilst also complying with the regulations set out by the University. In order to keep students and staff safe, students will be divided into groups. The attendance of each group in class will vary week by week; this is in order to limit the number of students present at any one time. 

Sessions taking place at the University will be live streamed on Moodle; it is mandatory that students attend class at the University and/or online. Students must have access to a working microphone and camera in order to participate in this course.
