Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this course students should be able to:
· understand and accurately use a broad range of subject-specific vocabulary, studied both in class and at home.
· prepare and deliver an engaging and informative presentation
· write a well-structured email in English applying the vocabulary and grammar studied throughout the course accurately
(This course provides the necessary foundation students need to achieve the following learning goal (as defined in the curriculum): Students will be able to demonstrate the Business English skills required in today’s global economy.)
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Presentations, online tasks, homework tasks, extensive self-study, listening, writing and speaking assessments.
Course content
This foundation course aims to develop students’ ability to communicate effectively in the English-speaking workplace.
Skills that will be developed throughout this course are:
- presentation skills
- telephone skills
- writing skills (focus on writing emails)
- grammar (including tense and aspect, pronouns and adverbs)
- subject-specific vocabulary
Topics that will be covered throughout this course include:
- sustainability
- sales and marketing
- internships
IMPORTANT: due to the ongoing global pandemic, the structure of this course will be adapted as best as possible to meet students’ needs, whilst also complying with the regulations set out by the University. In order to keep students and staff safe, a majority of the sessions for this course will take place online. Therefore, students must have access to a working microphone and camera.
