Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

After completing this course,  students should have the basic mathematical knowledge that is required to describe and interpret economic models. They master essential elements of mathematical language and how to communicate mathematics on different levels.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Lecture online in a BigBlueButton classroom.

Course content

Basic mathematical terms for economics

Subjects:

  • Numbers and elementary combinatorics
  • Equations
  • Difference equations and financial mathematics
  • Calculus

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Examination methodology

The exam will be held online and be a written exam. 

Examination topic(s)

The exam will be based on the contents of the course. 

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

The exam will consist of:

  • short questions, such as either multiple choice or numerical answers, which are usually more calculation based and require no showing of working out, and
  • long questions, which involve writing a proof or step-by-step solutions where you show your working out. 

The distribution of marks between these two types of questions will be approximately 50% each.
