LV-Beschreibung
Intendierte Lernergebnisse
For each topic there will be some input in form of a lecture followed by some examples and calculations. Here, the students have to perform certain calculations, illustrations and plots to visualize and understand the network models, there specifics and limitations and their parameters. The goal is that students understand how to model different aspects of computer networks and are able to work with these models in a scientific manner.
The lecture can serve to deepen the understanding of networks and networking theory and as a preparation for research projects and master theses in this field. Furthermore, students should learn how to utilize Mathematica as a convenient tool for network design and analysis.
Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools
The classes will consist of input in form of lectures followed by some tasks to solve for students. The tasks will be mainly solved using Mathematica for symbolic and numerical calculations and for plotting / illustration purposes.
Inhalt/e
In this class, we will discuss specific elements of computer networks and how to mathematically model these elements. Exercises will be focusing on using the models for calculating certain properties of the networks using Mathamatica. In particular, we will look into the following topics:
- Introduction to Mathematica
- Markov chains
- Queueing networks
- Decentralized optimization
- Random access networks
- Wireless networks and channel
- Spatial distribution of network users
- Mobile networks
- Network performance metrics
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
The participants are expected to have basic knowledge on (wireless) networks and fundamental mathematical knowledge (e.g. about integration).
