Course content
The class deals with signal processing for communication systems. Focus is given to the physical layer and the use of signals to model and analyze the full transmission chain. Analog and digital modulation will be explained as well as key algorithms as the optimal receiver and equalization. The student will become familiar not only with communication systems but also will acquire familiarity with deterministic and stochastic signals as well as processing of data which has application in many different fields of information and communication technology.
Prior knowledge expected
- Signal theory (analog and digital signals, filtering, Fourier transform)
- Probability theory and stochastic processes
- Elements of communication engineering (Nachrichtentechnik)
These fundamental concepts will be shortly discussed again at the beginning of the course.
Literature
- Class notes
- Digital Communications (Proakis)
- Digital and analog communication systens (Couch)
