Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

The students should be able to carefully read and explain details of scientific papers.

Teaching methodology

Each student will get the task to develop a project by reading a scientific paper, working it out carefully, and presenting it in front of the class.

Course content

There will be topics mainly in Statistics (supervised by G. Kastner) and topics in Stochastic Processes (supervised by M. Szölgyenyi).

Prior knowledge expected

Knowledge in stochastics and stochastic processes.

Literature

Scientific papers.

Examination information

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Modified examination information (exceptional COVID-19 provisions)

The bilateral meetings in preparation of the seminar presentation, which should help in preparing the topics, can take place via BBB.

If the presentations cannot be given at the university due to COVID-19, they need to be given via BBB.

Examination methodology

The projects will be distributed at the beginning of the semester.
Then the projects  will be carefully worked out.
For this, the students will read scientific papers under guidance and they will work it out carefully. 
Then all projects will be presented in front of the other students.

The own topic and the participation in the seminar.

Assessment criteria / Standards of assessment for examinations

The marks are based on the development of the project and the end presentation. Attendance is mandatory.

Sign-out without grading is possible until October 31, 2020.
