Intendierte Lernergebnisse

The acquired knowledge allows students to analyze the causal links between the main macroeconomic, monetary and financial variables, better understand the economic systems and the potential impact on contemporary societies. Students will be able to follow the national and international economic policy debate on topics such as: growth, unemployment, inflation, public debt and economic-political integrations. The course will stimulate students’ ability to analyze and critically evaluate economic systems and stimulate students to conceive other economic phenomena and production-consumption models, both at individual and aggregate levels.

Teaching classes with frontal lessons, lectures and workshops. Presentation of case studies and students assessments.

Inhalt/e

The course will focus on macroeconomics and the fundamental concepts are studied, with reference to an open industrial economy. Some analytical tools are proposed to understand trends and policies of international trade, capital flows and workers between countries, the trans-national organization of companies, global monetary and financial balances. The last part of the course will shed light on Sustainable Development theories and how they inspire economics, enhancing standard measurements from quantitative to qualitative approaches of international growth.

Concepts, history and measures of economic development.

The functioning of the goods and factors markets.

Monetary systems and financial markets.

The balance of payments.

Concepts, principles and dimensions of the international economy.

Theories and realities of international trade.

The international mobility of labor and capital.

Multinational companies and global value chains.

Exchange rates, currency areas, monetary policies.

Beyond GDP:Quantity and quality of growth.

The triplebottom line and sustainable businesses.

SDGs development goals and Agenda 2030.

Fair Trade, Microfinance, Ethical banking andinvestment. 

Circular economy, Green economy, Blue economy: differences and similarities.

The makers movement and the new industrial revolution.
