Inhalt/e
From the tradition of the Grand Tour of the 18thand 19thcenturies to contemporary travel writing and online-blogging, the Alps-Adriatic region has always captured the interest and imagination of (not only) Anglo-American and Irish writers. This course aims to examine the oeuvre of a number of writers, filmmakers, and artists as it relates and engages with the multi-cultural and multi-lingual region of the Alps-Adriatic. Apart from well-known examples such as those of the Irish writer James Joyce, the British filmmaker David Lean, or the American novelist Donna Leon, we will also research and examine the impact of those writers and filmmakers on contemporary receptions of the region as well as on the oeuvre of writers, filmmakers, and artists from the region itself.
Erwartete Vorkenntnisse
While it may help to have a general idea of how to analyze literary and media texts, the course is open to anyone with an interest in the subject matter. In group work activities, students of literature will try to be grouped with those from other disciplines to enable mutual benefits in learning.
