LV-Beschreibung

Intendierte Lernergebnisse

  • Deepening of the knowledge in the sub-areas of physical geography. More specifically the following theme will be on the focus: Geology, hydrogeomorphology, climate, biogeography and soils.
  • By the end of the online course, the student are expected to have acquired: 1) the most updated scientific knowledge on river hydromorphology, river functioning, main geomorphological processes across the different spatial and temporal scales in river systems, the capacity to assess the hydromorphological alterations induced by human activities, the capability to evaluate morphological quality of a river, to apply acquired knowledge to river management, including restoration actions and the ability to use Gis software to solve hydromorphological issues.

  • After completion of the course, students should be able to work independently and in depth on physical geographical topics, to analyse complex issues and to solve small practical exercises in an integrative manner, as well as to correctly express the knowledge gained in writing and orally in a subject-specific manner, i.e.to write a paper that meets the scientific standards.

  • Enhancing competencies in scientific work such as problems’ resolution, research, reading, comprehension, citation and writing.
  • Development and promotion of subject-specific foreign language competence through the use of English language.
  • Learning the ability to bring your own arguments into a scientific discussion.

Lehrmethodik inkl. Einsatz von eLearning-Tools

In order to go into sufficient depth of knowledge, the course dedicates 1,5 hours to geology, climate, biogeography and soils (with Dr Kasinger as responsible lecturer) and 1,5 hour to hydrogeomorphology (with Dr. Scorpio and Assoc.-Prof. Garcia-Santos as responsible lecturers).

Geology, climate, biogeography, ecozones and soils (in German with English literature; Dr Kasinger as responsible lecturer):

  • 3 blocked meetings in class with ppt-presentations on topics of physical geography, short presentations and discussion guidance by the LV manager
  • Joint development of the contents
  • Discussion of your own topic as well as the other topics taught in class
  • Editing technical literature
  • Preparation of a presentation and  writing of a written paper

Hydrogeomorphology (in English; Dr. Scorpio and Assoc.-Prof. Garcia-Santos as responsible lecturers):

  • 4 online modules (composed of 12-14 lessons in total) to be followed in Moodle during the semester. One new module available in Moodle every month from March till end of June.
  • Each lesson consists of two parts. The first part, corresponds to a video lesson, approximatelly 20-30 minutes, explaining the main theoretical concepts. In the second part, a short exercise is resolved or a short experiment is showed in 15-20 minutes.
  • An assignment per lesson is planned and graded, which has to be submitted in Moodle before the deadline.
  • Students may receive a feedback after appointment  or online (individual or in groups) to complete the learning process.
  • Most of the exercises will be solved with a GIS software.

Inhalt/e

  • Geology
  • Hydrogeomorphology
  • Climatology
  • Biogeography and ecozones
  • Soils

Erwartete Vorkenntnisse

The course builds on the contents of B2.1, B2.2 and B2.3 and requires this knowledge as well as the knowledge of good scientific practice (B3.2) and English.

Literatur

Selected literature is available on the respective topics in Moodle and must be expanded by independent research.

Prüfungsinformationen

Im Fall von online durchgeführten Prüfungen sind die Standards zu beachten, die die technischen Geräte der Studierenden erfüllen müssen, um an diesen Prüfungen teilnehmen zu können.

Prüfungsmethode/n

·       In class: Participation (work sheets/group work); Home work; Seminar work (5000 characters) with presentation. All parts of the examination must be assessed positively. The active participation is part of the examination performance.

·       Moodle course on hydromorphology: Continuous evaluation. All assignments of the Moodle course are graded. All the assignments must be submitted to finalize the course.

Prüfungsinhalt/e

Geology, hydromorphology, biogeography, climate and soils.

Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe

50 % of the final grade corresponds to geology, biogeography, climate and soils.

50 % of the final grade corresponds to hydromorphology.

If a part of the examination has been assessed negatively, the LV is thus assessed negatively (§ 73, paragraph 2 UG). A repetition of individual parts of the examination is not permitted - this means that after a negative evaluation of one part of the examination, the entire course must be repeated.
