Course Information

Intended learning outcomes

  • To improve communication skills and intercultural effectiveness of management and media professionals working in multilingual and multicultural contexts. 
  • To enhance awareness about the significance of cultural adaptation in global communication strategies. 
  • To learn proactive listening and effective communication in intercultural teams. 
  • To critically appreciate the impact of Social Media and Internet in communication.

Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools

Interactive Workshop Modules with Audio-Visual material. 

Framework and Tool Kit approach - an opportunity to learn and apply the concepts for solving real life challenges in interactive simulations. 

Experiential Learning . . . active participation is an important prerequisite for learning success. 

The learning focus is not narrowed by a culture-specific approach and is aimed at developing the appropriate mind-set for global effectiveness. 

Important to Know: Minimum Theory! Emphasis is upon applying the concepts learned to become more effective in solving professional challenges of effective global communication.

Course content

Global Business Managers and Media Professionals as intercultural communicators: 

Globalisation has transformed the patterns of human transaction and interpersonal communication. Culture directly affects all communication - verbal and nonverbal, in real time interface as well as virtually in the digital world. Therefore, ignoring culture in global business communication or international media campaigns can lead to problems and communication disruptions. As an expat working in international management or a media professional with foreign assignments, you will need to deal with international business communication sooner or later. 

This course teaches Global Business Managers and Media Professionals to improve their skills as intercultural communicators. Learning Content Introduction of an intercultural framework to provide an insight into how cross cultural issues influence communication and perception. Internet and E-Mail Communication. Key Elements of Global Communication such as leading and working with culturally diverse teams, conflict management in global teams and leveraging the impact of Social Media in communication. Intercultural anecdotes and experiential learning from each learning workshop are reinforced by visual clips. The toolkit approach facilitates solving authentic case studies in real time.
