Course Information
Intended learning outcomes
To develop an understanding of techniques for behavioral change.
Teaching methodology including the use of eLearning tools
Lecture review of intervention methods, role playing activities, and discussions
Course content
This seminar focuses on applied techniques used for changing health behaviors. After providing an overview of empirically-based practices, students will have the opportunity to practice specific techniques during the seminar.
- Overview of psychological interventions applications in disease management and prevention
- Interviewing techniques
- Motivational interviewing for behavioral change
- Mindfulness-based approaches
- Cognitive behavioral approaches
- Problem-solving approaches
- Interventions with family members
- General intervention considerations and integrative care
- Using apps for behavioral change
Prior knowledge expected
Basic knowledge of clinical and health psychology principles
