Intendierte Lernergebnisse
The course has three main purposes. The first is to learn about typical behavioural patterns and mechanisms of change in adolescence. The second aim is to learn about the problems that psychological, physiological, and social changes in adolescence bring along, such as conflicts with parents, identity confusion, need of belonging, social anxiety, loneliness, changes of mood, daydreaming. The third aim of the course is to learn and practice reading and writing skills.

The course consists of both lectures and practicum; the practicum is focused to text analysis and text production.
Inhalt/e
Students are introduced to the main issues of adolescence and emerging adulthood, such as theories of adolescence; physical, social, and cognitive changes in adolescence; social networks; friendships and dating; egocentrism; identity formation; career related decision making; home-leaving patterns; changes in the family structure; drug abuse, teenage pregnancy; suicide; eating disorders; school dropout; bullying. Throughout the course, the students are introduced with the effective strategies of literature search and selection, evaluation of the reliability of different data sources, as well as with effective writing strategies; students learn how to find an effective title, how to write an introduction, how to include evidence in the writing, how to conclude the writing.
Prüfungsinformationen
Prüfungsmethode/n
Students are required to complete several short assignments during the course and write a paper on a selected topic. Final grade is obtained from this writing production; additional final examination is not required.
Prüfungsinhalt/e
Final grade is obtained from student’s participation and written production during the course. The topics refer to adolescence and emerging adulthood problems.
Beurteilungskriterien/-maßstäbe
Written assignments are graded upon several criteria which are subject of practice during the course. The exact criteria for evaluation are given on-site.
