Title: Adaptive Streaming of Omnidirectional/360-degree Media
Description:

Universal media access asproposed in the late 90s, early 2000 is now reality. Thus, we can generate, distribute, share, and consume any media content, anywhere, anytime, andwith/on any device. A major technical breakthrough was the adaptive streamingover HTTP resulting in the standardization of MPEG-DASH, which is nowsuccessfully deployed in HTML5 environments thanks to corresponding mediasource extensions (MSE). The next big thing in adaptive media streaming isvirtual reality applications and, specifically, omnidirectional (360°) mediastreaming, which is currently built on top of the existing adaptive streamingecosystems. This talk will present basic design principles, preliminaryevaluation results, ongoing standardization efforts, and open issues/challengeswhich will be concluded with a live-setup of a live 360-degree adaptive streamingscenario demonstrating state-of-the-art technology.
