Title: Office work in the digital age: new challenges, new competencies
Description:

Office work is an area that is moulded to a large extent by the use of digital media. In a recent study, the challenges of digital media use for office workers and their strategies to cope with these challenges have been explored. The results disclosed that the workers elaborate very individualized strategies and practices that are the consequence of concrete considerations, trials and experiences. As the data suggested, companies put little effort into supporting staff in their acquisition or expansion of proficiencies for digital media use. Training and learning opportunities are offered mainly for technical and instrumental abilities with the primary aim of improved efficiency. However, there is a lack of possibilities to learn and intensify organizational, personal and reflective competencies and knowledge, which are highly relevant in this challenging area.
