Mathematics education for citizenship: Potentials and realities

I will depart from an elaborated understanding of citizenship to discuss which education is needed for citizenship. Based on this framework, I will ask which roles education in mathematics can play for citizenship, but also which special challenges the use of mathematics in our societies poses for citizenship. Arriving at an idea of what mathematics education for citizenship might entail, I will ask in how far mathematics education does or could fulfil theses expectations.
