Given today's prominence of social media in our daily lives and given the hopes and fears that social media incite, it is important to analyse scientifically their impact on our behaviour as individuals and on decision making in our society. This symposium will try to explore how an interdisciplinary collaboration ranging from neurosciences and cognitive sciences, through computer science, artificial intelligence and network sciences to social psychology, philosophy, behavioural economics, and law could address this highly topical issue. A better scientific understanding will be important in developing a next generation of digital technologies, social media and more generally any system where communication and interaction are digitally mediated.
