Lecture: Energy Efficient Power Management for Wireless Applications
Master data
Title: | Energy Efficient Power Management for Wireless Applications |
Description: | The trend in recent hardware system designs, especially when they are battery driven (eg. notebooks, cellular phones or handhelds), is to operate the different components of the system (RF ciruits, baseband processor, etc. in case of a cellular phone) with different supply voltages, in order to achieve optimum performance and high power efficiency. For the voltage regulation task in general, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), also called DC-DC converters, are deployed to provide the variety of basic voltages needed on-chip/on-board. This research focuses on ultra low power mobile devices, thus efficiencies higher than 90% are essential. The goal is to develop close-to-optimum and robust control techniques for DC-DC converters, where the overall cost for such a controller stays as low as possible. |
