For a long time all discussions about the ancient inhabitants of the Carpathian basin, the Dacians, had been dominated by nationalist and other political issues, which continued to habe an effect also long after the fall of the communist regime in 1989/1990. In 2018 it is probably the right time to reevaluate the research tradition in a new light, to reassess and to reconsider archaeological features, historical approaches and ideological critique concerning the complex legacy of the "Dacian Past"
