Reflexive Europeanisation: The Makings of Europe in Local Field Sites

In this workshop, we will engage with the diverse experiences, practices, and imaginations of making Europe as seen from the different TRACES fieldsites. The focus is the TRACES concept reflexive Europeanisation. We draw on the notion of a plurality of non-teleological, non-exclusive histories and presences of Europe. Much of this plurality refers to “other” entangled places, subjects and movements beyond a European West. However, in the main stream imagination and politics these “other Europes” are widely marginalized and dis-membered. Reflexive Europeanization aims at tracing these gaps and voids in the European memoryscape in order to allow for re-thinking Europe from the perspective of entangled difference.

The workshop focuses on the question in which ways our work in local/national/ multiscalar heritage configurations can shed light on diverse imaginations and makings of Europe, and how they are related to contested issues of identity, difference and conflict.
