Title: Modelling of photovoltaic array temperature in a tropical site using generalized extreme value distribution
Subtitle:
Abstract: The standard approach of assessing the efficiency of a solar cell is strongly depending on the cell temperature (Tc). The value of Tc is calculated based on solar radiation and ambient temperature values as well as the nominal operating cell temperature (NOCT). NOCT is defined as the temperature element in a solar cell exposed at 800 W/m2 of solar radiation, 20 °C of ambient temperature, and a wind speed of 1?m/s. However, these conditions may vary depending on the climate zone nature. In this research, a new condition called tropical field operation cell temperature (tFOCT) is introduced based on the maximum daily standard climatic parameters under tropical field conditions. These parameters are calculated and justified using generalized extreme value distribution based on the transient conditions of the tropical weather as a unique approach of field value adaptation. The results show that the suitable weather conditions for measuring the tFOCT are 886?W/m2 of solar radiation, 34?°C of ambient temperature, and a wind speed of 3.2 m/s. In addition to that, it is concluded that the recommended tFOCT value is 52.5 °C. Based on these conditions, an enhanced Tc model is proposed and it is found that this model has higher accuracy than the standard model.
