Title: Spatial Phenomena of Mediatised Work
Subtitle:
Abstract:

In Cultural and Social Sciences, space is perceived as culturally or socially constructed, as a result of communicative and social action. According to the Theory of Mediatization, media play an important role in transforming space, space-related perceptions and actions (Krotz 2007: 39). ICT or digital media, along with the ongoing process of virtualization, have led to the flexibilization and dissolution of the boundaries (“Entgrenzung”) of existent spaces and to the emergence of new spaces. In a recent study, titled “Mediatization of Work” (Roth-Ebner 2015), the interrelation between the mediatization of office work and the phenomena of space and time was explored. This paper is based upon this research and presents results concerning the transformation of space in the context of mediatized office work.
