Titel: Human Factors of a Speech-Based Emergency Response Information System
Untertitel:
Kurzfassung: The Emergency Patient Care Report Form (EPCRF), as it is used in Austria as well as in other countries, is still paper-based and should be filled out by the emergency physician during every emergency event. Subsequently, the ECRF is transferred to the dispatching hospital together with the patient. The goal of the research project CANIS (short for CArinthian Notarzt (i.e. emergency physician) Information System) is to develop an electronic EPCRF in order to establish a real-time bi-directional communication between the emergency physician on-site and the corresponding hospital. This paper proposes solutions to this situation by presenting one mobile platform, namely the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), as well as two non-standard data acquisition technologies, which will be applied within CANIS: speech recognition, and the digital pen. In order to evaluate user preferences and user acceptance in reference to the speech-based prototype as well as the digital pensupported report form, usability tests have been conducted, the results of which are also presented in this paper.
