Adaptive Access Management for Cabin-based Transport Systems
Beschreibung:

A novel approach for passenger access to cabin-based public transport
systems has recently been tested in the eld. It employs a boarding gate displaying the number of passengers that is foreseen for the next cabin. The idea behind this approach is to balance the load on cabins and to leave space for passengers waiting at intermediate boarding points. The solution received very positive feedback from passengers and transport system operators. Deductively, it has the potential to improve both throughput and passenger comfort. From a scientic point of view, the
system is a queueing network with several queues at dierent points in space. The objective of this two-year project is to improve the system performance by making the access management adaptive to the passenger load over time. For this purpose, centralized and decentralized algorithms computing the desired passenger number
at all boarding gates will be developed based on an industry-driven specification of requirements and a comprehensive system model. The algorithms will be evaluated by simulation and tested in a real boarding gate in the eld. The interdisciplinary project team covers a broad spectrum of expertise, including logistics, networked systems, and queuing theory. The industrial partner SKIDATA is a world-wide leading provider of access systems.
