Description:

Bridging the Gap between Higher Education and Local Challenges through Partnership (BRIDGE): In Search for Sustainable Pathways to Rural Transition in Ethiopia
Description:

The ties between AAU and Gondar University started in 2010 when Hailemariam Birke Andarge began his PhD programme at the Institute of Social Ecology (SEC), AAU. The Ethiopian Hailmariam Birke Andarge had been a senior lecturer at the Department of Development and Environmental Management Studies (DEMS) at Gondar University since 2005, and has particularly been involved in the design and implementation of the M.A. course 'Public Policy and Sustainable Development'. As his PhD was coming to a successful end we saw APPEAR as an opportunity to establish a more formalised collaboration, as our academic and development interests are mutually enriching for both partners. Against this backdrop a short proposal was designed to complement and reinforce both our institutes strengths and potentials and funding (APPEAR preparatory funding budget line) was granted in February this year that initiated the design of a full-fledged proposal.
