| Illas - Integrating Land use Legacies in Landslide Risk Assessment to support Spatial Planning | |
| Description: | In the near future, landslides will be one of the most expensive climate change effects in Austria. However, the reasons for their occurrence and their historical dynamics are poorly understood. This makes assessing future risks for landslides particularly difficult. ILLAS sheds light on the impacts of historic land uses, as well as of changing climatic conditions (past and future) on the likelihood of landslides. Historical land use data and climate records are used in Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) to analyze the effects on different landslides. Results from ILLAS will inform decision makers in spatial planning. ILLAS is funded by the Austrian Climate Research Panel (ACRP) in the period from April 2017 to September 2019. The project is coordinated by the Austrian Institute of Technology (Philip Leopold). Partners are Universitaet Klagenfurt (Simone Gingrich), Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Helene Petschko) and Joanneum Research (Herwig Proske). |

| Description: | Hangrutschungen werden in absehbarer Zukunft eine der ökonomisch teuersten Auswirkungen des Klimawandels in Österreich werden. Die Gründe für ihr Auftreten, sowie ihre historischen Dynamiken wurden bisher nur unzureichend verstanden, wodurch die Abschätzung der Gefährdung durch zukünftige Rutschungsereignisse erschwert wird. ILLAS beleuchtet die Relevanz historischer Landnutzung und des sich verändernden Klimas (Vergangenheit, Simulation zukünftiger Szenarien) für das Auftreten von Hangrutschungen. Historische Landnutzungsdaten und Klimaaufzeichnungen werden genutzt, um mit Hilfe von Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) die Effekte auf unterschiedliche Hangrutschungen zu analysieren. Die Erkenntnisse aus ILLAS sollen integraler Bestandteil in der Unterstützung von Entscheidungsträgern in der Raumordnung sein. ILLAS wird vom Austrian Climate Research Panel (ACRP) für den Zeitraum von April 2017 bis September 2019 gefördert. Die Projektleitung liegt beim Austrian Institute of Technology (Philip Leopold). Konsortialpartner sind neben der Universität Klagenfurt (Simone Gingrich) die Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Helene Petschko) und Joanneum Research (Herwig Proske). |
