| Beschreibung: | The project ‘Whatever the weather. We must move together. Towards an environmentalhistory of the post-WWII relations of the U.S.A. and Austria’ is part of a larger research plan dealing with the relevance of the Marshall Plan for the cultural construction of Austrian landscapes. The project asks if and how extreme weather conditions influenced the implementation and design of the Marshall Plan. It is assumed that experts reacted on the ‘Dürresommer1947’ [drought summer, R.G.] against the backdrop of New-Deal-related Dust Bowl experiences in the Great Plains. The concept of ‘Middle Ground’-situations enables to conceptualize the Marshall Plan as encounter in which the social construction of national ‘nature’ was negotiated by experts. |

| Beschreibung: | Das Projekt „What ever the weather. We must move together. Towards an environmental history of thepost-WWII relations of the U.S.A. and Austria“ ist Teil eines größeren Forschungsvorhabens, das sich mit der Bedeutung des Marshallplans für die kulturelle Konstruktion österreichischer Landschaften beschäftigt. Das Projekt geht der Fragen nach, ob und wie extreme Wetterbedingungen die Umsetzung und Gestaltung des Marshallplans beeinflussten. Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass Experten auf den "Dürresommer 1947" vor dem Hintergrund der New-Deal-bezogenen Dust Bowl Erfahrungen in den US-amerikanischen „Great Plains“ reagierten. Das Konzept der 'Middle Ground'-Situationen ermöglicht es, den Marshallplan als ein Ereignis zu konzipieren, in der die soziale Konstruktion nationaler Natur von Experten ausgehandelt wurde. |
