Teacher training in inferential statistics accompanying a major & innovative curriculum reform
Description:

Our research project aims to integrate inferential statistics into Hungary’s secondary-school curriculum. In 2019, we developed and tested a first curriculum employing an experiment-based approach with simulations and Excel-based calculations. To evaluate the feasibility, we used a pre-post-test design and conducted semi-structured interviews with teachers in a repeated action research setting. Based on the teachers’ feedback, the updated approach and methods and the resulting curriculum appear appropriate for the reform, requiring revisions primarily formore calculation examples and additional tutorials. The provided digital tools facilitate comprehension. Our results indicate that even complex statistical concepts can be effectively taught to beginners with the right technical support and ample practice materials, promoting inclusivity.
