Description: In dieser Studie soll eine GIS gestützte Erfassung von „Wildnisgebieten“ flächendeckend für ganz Österreich erfolgen. Die Modellierung basiert auf dem Wildnis-Kontinuum Konzept der Australian Heritage Commission (Lesslie et al. 1993), bei diesem Verfahren wird jeder Lokalität ein quantitativer Wildnisqualitätswert zugewiesen. Ausgehend von diesem Ergebnis soll einerseits das Potential für die zukünftige Einrichtung von „wild areas“ abgeschätzt werden und andererseits eine GAP Analyse für schon bestehende Schutzgebiete durchgeführt werden.

Wilderness Vision Austria
Description: In this GIS based study we record wild(erness) areas for the whole Austrian territory. We use the wilderness continuum concept, developed by the Australian Heritage Commission (Lesslie et al. 1993), as our modelling framework, assigning a quantitative wilderness quality index to each locality. This result will be used for assigning areas with high potential to establish future wild areas as well as for a GAP analysis to identify gaps within the existing network of protected areas.
