| Description: | Das Ziel von MATISSE war es, für die Umsetzung der EU Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie die wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen für die integrierte (auch vorausschauende) Nachhaltigkeitsbewertung (Integrated Sustainability Assessment, ISA) von Politiken zu verbessern. Bestehende Analyse- und Bewertungsinstrumente (Modelle) waren zu verbessern und miteinander in Verbindung zu setzen, neue Methoden und Instrumente zu entwickeln, die der Komplexität und Vielschichtigkeit von ISA gerecht werden. An Hand von vier Fallstudien in den Bereichen Landwirtschaft, Forstwirtschaft und Landnutzung; Ressourcennutzung, Abfall und Dematerialisierung; Wasser; und nachhaltige Entwicklung von Umwelttechnologien wurden die Instrumente angewandt, getestet und weiterentwickelt. Das IFF Institut für Soziale Ökologie war als Teil der Core group für das Gesamtprojekt (20 Partnerinstitutionen) sowie dafür verantwortlich, jenes Workpackage zu koordinieren, dessen Aufgabe darin besteht, vorhandene Modelle auszubauen und besser zu vernetzen, und trug selbst zur Modellentwicklung bei, indem es seinen HANPP-Ansatz (human appropriation of net primary production) mit dem Vegetationsmodell LPJ und dem integrierten Modell IMAGE in einer Kooperation mit dem Potsdam Institut für Klimafolgenforschung und dem RIVM Amsterdam vernetzte. Darüber hinaus koordinierte es gemeinsam mit dem Wuppertal Institut die Fallstudien zu Ressourcennutzung, Abfall und Dematerialisierung. | Description: | The objective of MATISSE was to achieve a step-wise advance in the science and application of Integrated Sustainability Assessment (ISA) by improving available tools and methods, by developing new tools, and by testing those tools with case studies on Agriculture and Land-use, resource use and dematerialisation, water use and environmental technologies. IFF Social Ecology was - as part of the core group - responsible for the overall coordination (20 partner institutions) and for the coordination of work package 8 in particular, which is supposed to extend and interlink existing models. Social Ecology also contributed with its HANPP approach (human appropriation of net primary production) to extend existing vegetation models and provide a link to IMAGE, in collaboration with the Potsdam Institute of Comate Impact Research and RIVM Amsterdam. Beyond this, it is coordinating, in collaboration with the Wuppertal Institute, the case studies on resource use and dematerialization.
