Beschreibung: Concern about global environmental change has stimulated interest in the comprehensive analysis of flows of energy and matter through economies and their relation to land use, as well as their social organisation. The endeavour to understand the future dynamics of industrial metabolism has stimulated a new interest in gaining deeper insight into its historical development. Austria and Czech Republic (resp. Czechoslovakia) serve as comparative case studies to analyse biophysical aspects of socio-economic development during industrialization under different political and economic conditions. The project facilitates the cooperation between scientists of the Environment Center of Charles University in Prague and the Institute of Social Ecology. Its main focus is on scientific exchange and the enhancement of cooperation in order to facilitate comparative analysis of Czech and Austrian datasets on the development of land use and industrial metabolism covering a 100 year time period. The main goal of the project is to achieve harmonization of datasets, methodology and facilitate comparative analysis.
