Beschreibung: This European Union funded project (4th Framework Programme for Research and Technological development, INCO part C) is based upon the cooperation of six European and four Panamazonian (PAC) Partners. The IFF Social Ecology Vienna part consists of contributions to the following questions: Does material and energy flow analysis as a tool to operationalize sustainable development fit the special problems, challenges and institutional prerequisites in PAC? Which potential support or obstacles for sustainable development can be expected from the structural change in strategic economic sectors in PAC? Is it possible to use or to develop political instruments for the management of structural change aiming at the reduction of material flows and the related ecological risks? Which conclusions can be drawn from the research agenda above for the design of academic training programs and post-graduate education in selected universities in PAC? The main objectives are defined as follows: 1) To compare different European and Panamazonian countries (PAC) approaches and to elaborate a joint approach to assessing and measuring sustainable development, especially sustainable land and resource use in the basin of the river Amazonas/Solimões. 2) To integrate these approaches and instruments into PAC University training programs and study schemes. 3) To elaborate recommendations for innovative actors and policy makers and to establish long term relationships between scientific institutions and these actors for promoting sustainable development in the PAC. The IFF performs, together with its partners in the Panamazonian countries Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela and the Wuppertal Institute in Germany, various material flow analyses (MFA). The following MFAs haev been made: 1) national MFAs for Bolivia, Columbia and Venezuela; 2) a regional MFA for the Brazilian province of Para 3) a local MFA for a village in Columbia.

Beschreibung: Die Ziele des Projekts sind: 1) Ansätze zur Operationalisierung nachhaltiger Entwicklung in europäischen und panamazonischen Ländern (Panamazonian countries - PAC) zu vergleichen und einen gemeinsamen Ansatz zu entwickeln. Besonders berücksichtigt werden dabei Aspekte einer nachhaltigen Land- und Ressourcennutzung im Amazonas/Solimoes Flussbecken 2) Die Implementierung dieser Ansätze und Instrumente in der universitären Lehre der PAC Staaten. Das IFF hat, gemeinsam mit den Partnern in den PAC Staaten Bolivien, Brasilien, Kolumbien und Venezuela, sowie in Zusammenarbeit mit dem deutschen Wuppertal-Institut verschiedene Materialflussrechnungen (MFAs) in den PAC Staaten durchgeführt. Konkret wurden folgende Materialflussrechnungen erstellt: 1) nationale MFAs für Bolivien, Kolumbien und Venezuela; 2) eine regionale MFA für die brasilianische Provinz Para · 3) eine lokale MFA für ein Dorf in Kolumbien.
